Department of posts has received
significant response from residents of the city to its second 'post office on
wheels' vehicle that was flagged off around two months ago. The vehicle is
offering postal services at the doorsteps of people in eastern parts of the
city as well as in major residential areas in Pimpri Chinchwad.
The official of department of
posts said that response has been tremendous especially in the outskirts areas
where the department has not been able to set up post offices. The official
said that the project is being run successfully in the city since last year
when first 'post office on wheels' vehicle was launched to cater to the needs
of city's western parts.
The department keep changing
schedules of two vehicles for every week. The schedule is announced one week
prior so that people from respective areas will be able to avail of the
services. The vehicle runs in two shifts---morning and evening---in a day
covering major residential colonies and roads. It offers almost all postal
services including sale of postal stationery like postcards.
An official said that the 'post
office on wheels' projects has proved beneficial for elderly people, students
and housewives who can get the postal services at doorsteps. The department
plans to expand services of the vehicle in the near future.

Sir,
It is not true that there is response from members of public to transact their business on Post on Wheel. Actually the business done on POW is diverted from Post Office counter by the Postal staff meant for the purpose. In fact, it causes heavy loss to the department considering Profit & Loss A/C & is only drama to highlight once image in the media & department.
