14 DAYS STRIKE TO BE TREATED AS LEAVE

HONOURABLE MOC & IT ORDERED FOR SANCTION OF
LEAVE FOR 14 DAYS STRIKE

14 DAYS INDEFINITE STRIKE HELD IN YEAR 2000

MINISTER'S ORDER A BREAKTHROUGH

Dear Comrades!

Honourable Minister of Communications & IT Shri.A.Raja has ordered that the 14 Days Strike of Postal Employees in the year 2000 be treated as leave. Newspapers in Tamilnadu have quoted reference to say that Honourable MOC & IT has accepted the demand of the unions and ordered to sanction leave against the 14 days strike period and to pay wages for the said period. NFPE has verified to confirm the press news and found that indeed such a direction has come from the Honourable Minister in the Directorate. Orders are yet to be issued by the Postal Directorate.

The action of the Honourable Minister is a breakthrough and a coup in the system of things in place. The Strike was declared illegal at that time and Honourable Delhi Court directed to use ESMA. After the Strike when the Postal JCA demanded treatment of period of strike as leave it was not accepted by the group of secretaries and also by the group of Ministers. Later accepting the request of the then Postal JCA Honourable Minister of Communications & IT Shri.Ram Vilas Paswan tried to sanction leave against the strike period. But the DOPT did not permit. The issue is now handled by the present Honourable Minister of Communications & IT Shri. A.Raja and despite system hurdles ordered by him to be treated as leave. Therefore the decision of the Honourable Minister is to be considered as a coup and a welcome decision by the unions.

P3 CHQ thanks the Honourable Minister for his persistence and conversion of his public announcement into an order and hopes that the system would adjust itself to the order of the Honourable Minister and issue appropriate orders for leave  to permit such of those employees who want to convert the period of strike into leave. This will be of enormous help for those employees who are retired but became ineligible for pension as they did not complete 9 years 9 months mandatory regular service for getting pension in some circles. WE WELCOME THE MINISTER'S ORDERS.
